Skeleton Technologies expands R&D capabilities with new unit in Finland

We are excited to see Skeleton Technologies taking another significant step forward in its growth by opening a new research and product development (R&D) unit at the LUT University campus in Lappeenranta. This expansion strengthens the company’s presence in Finland, following the establishment of a pilot factory in Varkaus in early 2023.

Advancing Skeleton’s energy storage solutions

The new Lappeenranta R&D unit will play a crucial role in advancing Skeleton’s cutting-edge energy storage technologies, including the development of SuperBattery and supercapacitor solutions. Located at LUT University, Finland’s leading electrical engineering institution and a globally recognized leader in climate action, the new unit provides an ideal environment for innovation and collaboration. The city of Lappeenranta itself has been recognized as the greenest city in Europe in the 2021 European Green Leaf Awards, making it a natural fit for Skeleton’s mission to revolutionize energy storage.

The power of SuperBattery technology

Skeleton’s SuperBatteries are designed to meet the demands of industries requiring ultra-fast charging, high power density, and extreme durability, including data centers, grid, mobility and defense. These cutting-edge solutions charge in less than 60 seconds, function reliably in temperatures as low as -40°C, and exceed 50,000 charge and discharge cycles. By utilizing its patented Curved Graphene technology, Skeleton aims to reduce dependency on critical raw materials and enhance sustainability.

Leveraging Finland’s expertise

Finland’s expertise in engineering and energy makes it a strategic location for Skeleton’s continued development. The investments in Finland not only leverage the country’s technical excellence but also provide a seamless opportunity to attract and hire future talent directly from LUT University. With the Varkaus facility already focused on electrode manufacturing and product development, the addition of the Lappeenranta R&D unit further reinforces Skeleton’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions.

Congratulations to the Skeleton team on this important milestone and continued progress!
