Battery fundamentals, updated with purpose

Good training starts with clear content. But great training depends on curation. That means knowing what to include, how to structure it, and how to match it to the needs of real job roles. That is why we updated our battery fundamentals programme.

This update is based directly on feedback from partners and training providers. They told us the original content needed more consistency, stronger structure, and better alignment with what people actually do on the job. We took that feedback and rebuilt the programme from the ground up.

A modular structure built for learners and employers

The new battery fundamentals programme includes eight short, focused courses. Each one takes about one hour to complete. The courses are modular and can be followed in sequence or taken individually. Learners can enter at any point based on their experience and job needs.

  • Introduction to Batteries
  • Current Battery Technologies
  • Basic Concepts of Electrical Systems
  • Introduction to Battery Safety
  • Raw Materials and Supply Chain
  • Electrode and Cell Manufacture
  • Module and Pack Design and Assembly
  • End-of-Life, Second Life, and Recycling

This format gives employers flexibility and gives learners control. It supports faster onboarding, clearer learning outcomes, and better performance on the job.

What Changed and why

The earlier version of the programme had grown over time. Course lengths varied from one to six hours. Some topics overlapped. Others required advanced technical skills without offering foundational context. The user interface was outdated, and the platform was not mobile-friendly.

We addressed these issues in five key ways:

  • Course lengths are now consistent and manageable
  • The structure builds from basics to more advanced topics without repeating content
  • Practical examples have been added to connect learning with real work
  • Certification exams now reflect the kind of knowledge people use on the job
  • The platform design has been modernised and works well on any device

Meeting urgent workforce needs

Battery manufacturers, energy storage operators, and e-mobility suppliers all face the same challenge. They need people with the right skills, and they need them quickly. Many of these companies are scaling through the Training Partnerships as a Service model.

This programme supports that goal by reducing onboarding time and offering targeted, job-ready training. Employers can trust that the skills being taught are directly relevant to the roles they are hiring for.

Built for today, ready for what comes next

This is not just a content update. It is a step toward a more flexible and scalable training ecosystem. We are now applying the same structure to other learning areas, including solar, hydrogen, operations, and system integration.

The programme is fully aligned with the Green Skills Framework and Taxonomy developed by InnoEnergy Skills Institute. This ensures that every course supports recognised job roles and meets the standards employers are already using.

NOW AVAILABLE

The new battery fundamentals programme is ready to support your workforce’s needs. Whether you are training new employees, reskilling internal talent, or building capacity across your supply chain, this content is designed to deliver results.

This work is part of a wider strategy by the Green Talent Accelerator. By connecting training to real job roles defined in the Green Skills Framework and Taxonomy, we ensure every course supports the capabilities the clean energy sector needs. The battery programme is one example of how we turn skills intelligence into practical, modular learning.
