Connecting students with industry leaders has never been more important. It has the power to shape careers, spark innovation, and drive meaningful change. Students with internship experience are much more likely to develop critical skills that benefit themselves and the companies they work for, and research shows much higher retention rates than those without internships. These connections set the stage for success, and at InnoEnergy, we see this impact daily.
Elvis Gherghinescu, InnoEnergy Career Services Coordinator, plays an important role in bridging this gap. He ensures students are equipped to become the future leaders of the energy transition. Based in Barcelona, Gherghinescu has dedicated himself to empowering students and connecting them with opportunities that drive change.
From his early dreams of diplomacy to his current passion for education, Gherghinescu’s journey is a testament to the power of finding one’s true calling with the help of early career opportunities “I thought I wanted to be a diplomat,” he recalls, reflecting on internships at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations. “But those experiences showed me it wasn’t the right path for me. That’s why internships are valuable; they help you figure out what you want.”

Now, Gherghinescu channels that insight into helping students. “I help students find thesis placements, internships, and jobs, and I help our portfolio companies find talent,” he explains. “It’s incredibly rewarding to know I’ve played a small part in improving someone’s life.”
Gherghinescu often describes himself as “a bit of a Cupid” in his work, guiding students toward their strengths while supporting companies to find the right talent. “Through my work, I try to give students a boost of self-esteem, helping them discover their values and potential. Of course, they do the heavy lifting, but we give them the push they need to be ready for impact,” he says.
This dedication aligns perfectly with InnoEnergy’s core values. For Gherghinescu, “We Care” resonates the most. “We don’t do our job just because we want to get paid at the end of the month. We do it because we actually believe in what we do,” he shares. “These students are the future energy leaders who will drive the energy transition. For me, it’s not just a job; it’s a passion.”
Gherghinescu also embodies the core value “We Think Beyond” in his approach to connecting students with industry. He organises events that unite students and companies, creating opportunities for collaboration and growth. “We bring students and companies into the same room, where they solve real-world challenges together,” he explains. “It’s a win-win. The students showcase their skills, and companies get to see them in action.”
Of course, managing relationships across universities, corporates, and startups is not always easy, but Gherghinescu’s determination shines through. “If one door is locked, then I go knock on another one,” he says. “Good communication and a smile can take you a long way.” His ability to create personal connections ensures that students and partners feel supported and valued.
Gherghinescu firmly believes education is the foundation of the energy transition. “Without knowledge, it’s harder to innovate and achieve great results,” he says. “My role is to help lay the groundwork for the next generation of energy leaders. I’m just a small part of it, but I see myself as helping build careers that drive clean energy innovations and decarbonisation.”
Despite the intensity of his work, Gherghinescu is boosted by the excitement of the students he supports. “They transmit their energy to us,” he says with a smile. “I love my job and hope to keep doing it for as long as possible.”
Elvis Gherghinescu’s story is a testament to the significant impact that is possible when one’s values are enlivened, and passionate individuals collaborate to shape a sustainable future. His passion and dedication are reminders of the power of connection, care, and hope in the next generation of energy leaders.
