Event: Unlocking decarbonised power for clean industrial transformation

EUROPEAN SUSTAINABLE ENERGY WEEK 2025

10 June 2025, 16:30 – 18:00 PM
European Commission, Charlemagne Building, Brussels

Policy session organised by InnoEnergy and Vattenfall AB in partnership with DG ENER of the European Commission

The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is the biggest event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe, organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

Our policy session: Unlocking decarbonised power for clean industrial transformation

Europe’s climate ambition and the increasing demand for decarbonised products is driving a major transformation across European industry. Delivering this transformation successfully depends on access to clean, affordable, and predictable electricity, at the scale and speed required by industrial production and innovation.

This challenge is at the core of both the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal and the Action Plan for Affordable Energy, which call for coordinated action to bring down energy costs, strengthen infrastructure, and unlock investment. Meeting these goals means tackling three structural hurdles: ensuring the availability of clean electricity where and when it is needed, creating the right market conditions to deliver competitive and stable end consumer prices, and expanding and upgrading the grid infrastructure that connects supply and demand.

The session will address three key questions:
• How can we drive investment to make clean electricity available where and when it is needed to stimulate industrial demand for clean power?
• How can we deliver stable, competitive average end consumer prices through well-designed markets and long-term contracts (e.g making Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) more accessible to new industrial players)
• How can we expand, modernise and finance electricity grids and infrastructure, especially to unlock new industrial clean energy hubs and reduce price divergence?
