InnoEnergy portfolio company Swobbee is partnering with ENYRING, a swappable battery subscription service for e-bikes founded by Yamaha Motor, to build a network of battery swapping stations for urban e-bike riders. As part of this collaboration, Swobbee will provide both hardware and key battery swapping software components for ENYRING’s upcoming swappable battery platform, which will launch in Berlin and Amsterdam later this year.
RevolutioniSing urban mobility by reducing range anxiety, lowering the cost of entry for e-bike ownership, and promoting circular battery usage
The partnership brings together ENYRING’s vision for sustainable and seamless e-bike use with Swobbee’s proven technology and operational expertise. By enabling riders to swap empty batteries for fully charged ones through a network of smart stations, the two companies aim to reshape how urban dwellers experience micromobility.
The collaboration also sets new standards for sustainability and convenience: Riders purchase an e-bike of their choice from ENYRING, while the battery, the most costly component, is available through a subscription service. Riders have access to fresh batteries at any time via an app, and ENYRING takes care of the maintenance, charging and servicing of the batteries. The closed-loop approach, centered on extending battery lifespans and promoting reuse and recycling, aligns closely with Swobbee’s mission to reduce operational costs and environmental impact for light electric vehicle fleets. With pilot operations set to begin in mid-2025, the partnership is poised to accelerate the rollout of swappable battery networks in some of Europe’s most bike-friendly cities.
Deepening the relationship with Yamaha
The collaboration builds upon previous engagements between Swobbee and Yamaha: Swobbee already powers a shared e-moped rental service using Yamaha’s NEO electric scooters in Berlin. The startup brings years of experience in deploying battery charging and swapping infrastructure for light electric vehicles. With a network of over 100 stations globally, Swobbee enables sustainable, cost-effective energy access for fleets and individual users. After successfully completing a pilot program with the City of New York in 2024, Swobbee began rolling out its service in the United States earlier this year.
