Swedish marintech company Zparq has launched a new OEM electric propulsion system designed for industrial marine use, marking a significant step in the company’s development and reinforcing the growing role of electric solutions in advanced maritime applications.
Zparq has introduced an ultra-light 10 kW submersible motor weighing just 4 kg, enabling boat manufacturers to integrate electric propulsion systems without compromising vessel design. The system is built for direct integration into hulls, allowing for more flexible and compact vessel architectures.
This approach opens up new possibilities for applications such as maritime surveillance, subsea inspection, security operations and autonomous craft. By embedding propulsion within the hull, the system enables new vessel configurations and supports emerging segments, including hydrofoil-based and unmanned platforms.
The propulsion solution also includes a complete zero-emission system offering – covering batteries, power electronics, control units and software – tailored for industrial integration.
Advancing electric propulsion for industrial and strategic marine use
The new OEM system builds on Zparq’s earlier outboard technology but has been re-engineered into a modular platform suited for industrial requirements, where reliability, performance and adaptability are critical.
The company has already secured initial orders from established OEM customers, signalling early market validation. The system is pressure-tested for both submerged and surface applications and offers a low acoustic signature, making it suitable for operations where efficiency and discretion are essential.
“This launch represents a major step for Zparq,” says Jonas Genchel, CEO and co-founder at Zparq. “We are building on our existing platform to scale it into industrial-grade applications where performance, reliability and flexibility are mission-critical.”
Zparq’s selection for the EUDIS Business Accelerator further highlights the relevance of its technology for the European defense ecosystem.
InnoEnergy’s long-term support for scalable clean tech innovation
As an early investor, InnoEnergy has supported Zparq from its early development stages through to this latest milestone. The company’s progress reflects a broader trend: electric propulsion is not only addressing sustainability challenges but also meeting demanding operational needs across industrial marine sectors.
Zparq’s technology contributes to reducing emissions in maritime environments while enabling new types of vessels and use cases, demonstrating how cleantech innovation can align with performance-driven applications.
“Zparq’s propulsion technology combines compact design with strong performance, making it relevant for a broader range of marine applications,” says Magnus Lundin, Investment Director Scandinavia at InnoEnergy. “From early on, we saw its potential to support the shift toward electrification in the marine sector. We have supported Zparq from its early development through to industrial deployment, and this launch reflects both the maturity of the technology and its growing market relevance. We look forward to continuing to support the company as it scales across advanced marine applications.”
