The need
Traditional tidal energy technologies have high capital and operational costs due to heavy infrastructure, specialised vessels and complex installation processes, causing them to be uncompetitive when compared to other renewables.
The solution
Lightweight, scalable modular power plants that generate electricity from low-flow tidal streams and ocean currents. Minesto’s ‘Dragon Class’ product line works on a unique, patented principle: the subsea kite is designed to glide across the main flow direction, with electricity produced several times greater than that of a stationary turbine. It can be installed where no other known technology can operate cost efficiently, providing the energy mix with a 100% predictable baseload.
The value proposition
Minesto reaches historic milestone – first electricity to grid with tidal powerplant Dragon 12
