Microstructured coating for glare reduction of photovoltaic modules

Phytonics’ innovative anti-glare film for solar modules delivers world-leading performance across all angles, with reflection luminance at 70° of <25’000 cd/m². It performs well above industry standard, meeting Christoph Bucher’s strict low-glare limit, making it essential for safety near airports and roads while also solving neighbourhood conflicts from solar panel reflections. Proven in 5 airport projects, its ultra-matte, microtextured surface sets a new benchmark for high-tech PV films.

Phytonics unlocks a new PV revenue stream and diversified business opportunity. The technology is easily implemented into existing film production facilities or as a standalone production, enabling fast, scalable adoption. Built on innovative microtextures, it allows manufacturers to expand into high-value markets and enable glare-free, emission-free PV in previously restricted environments.

The need

Solar modules can reflect light to cause glare issues, impacting driver and pilot safety, annoying neighbours, and blocking rooftop or dual-use land approvals. Customers face costly delays or outright bans without effective low‑glare solutions.

The solution

Phytonics has developed a self-adhesive, weather-resistant film with a micro-textured surface that eliminates glare, even at low sun angles where conventional solutions fail. The UV-stable polymer layer can be laminated onto new or existing solar panels. It has passed tests for hail, heat, UV, and humidity and is built to perform reliably for over 25 years.

The value proposition

  • Enables glare-free solar installations in sensitive areas like airports, roads, and rooftops, unlocking up to 300 GW of potential in the EU.
  • Can be applied to both new and existing solar panels and is flexible for retrofitting or integration during production.
  • Proven durability, weather- and UV-resistant for over 25 years, with certified performance in hail, heat, and humidity tests.
