Feasibility study launched for VolagHy’s leading site in Kuopio, backed by Airbus

VolagHy is pleased to announce that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Airbus to jointly co-finance a feasibility study and financial modeling for its Kuopio project.

VolagHy wants to contribute to the large-scale adoption of electro-based sustainable aviation fuels (eSAF) across Europe. Backed and initiated by InnoEnergy, one of Europe’s leading cleantech investors and venture builders, VolagHy leverages a pan-European ecosystem of industry, finance, policy, and academia to scale synthetic aviation fuel production. With its first flagship plant underway in Kuopio, Finland, VolagHy aims to replicate this model and build five eSAF facilities across the Nordics by 2040, setting a blueprint for scaling sustainable aviation fuels across Europe.

This agreement is a potential starting point for a broader collaboration. The parties share a common ambition to advance innovative solutions that support the decarbonisation journey of the aviation industry.

“Scaling sustainable aviation fuel is one of the most critical levers to decarbonise aviation in the near term. By supporting this project, we are collaborating with a high-quality initiative that combines strong industrial partnerships, access to key feed stocks and a clear pathway to commercial scale. The deployment of eSAF solutions in Europe is vital for the decarbonisation of the aviation sector and European resilience” said Julien Manhes, Head of Sustainable Aviation Fuels and Carbon Dioxide Removal, Airbus.

“This partnership marks an important milestone in advancing the project toward commercial maturity. Having Airbus support key development activities not only strengthens the industrial foundation of the project but also validates its strategic relevance for the future of aviation. Together, we are helping to unlock a scalable eSAF value chain in Europe.” said Jacob Ruiter, VolagHy Managing Director Company building Business line
